Garth Rickards

" I always wanted to race my entire life. In my mothers last couple days with her four year battle with cancer she told me to chase my dream no matter what anyone said. I'm chasing my dream just like my mom told me to and I'm loving it. She is my inspiration every day to give more than the other guys and why I am so happy in life regardless the past. live life to the fullest and chase your dreams"

My career

Garth grew up around racing his entire life, despite never racing as a kid. He would go to the local sprint car races with his father to watch his father's friend race and attended Indy Car races to watch Bobby Rahal who was his father's business partner and friend. Garth started his career in 2012-2013 by completing his required racing school and his first full season of racing with the Skip Barber Racing School. It was a year of learning the techniques and learning the tracks, but the one thing Garth didn’t need to learn, however, was how to deal with competition.

"In racing, I wanted to be a winner and to be a winner, you have to be willing to roll the dice."

-Bobby Rahal

2014 saw Garth’s first year with a professional racing team, and only his second season in open wheel racing.  He joined Team Pelfrey’s F1600 squad and duly finished second in the highly competitive series, claiming Rookie of the Year honors in the process with 1 win and 9 podiums.  Garth’s performances caught the eye of Team USA, and he was nominated for the coveted Team USA Scholarship.

"One phrase comes to mind when thinking of Garth, and that is True Grit. Garth’s level of attack and willingness to always push that one step further always amazes me and that goes beyond just on the track. As soon as I met Garth I knew he’d be a future superstar of the sport."

-Anders Krohn

“Garth is a fine example of what a young aspiring race car driver should be: Talented, intelligent and hard working.  These attributes will stand Garth in good stead as he looks to develop his career, whether it’s fighting for wins on the track or building successful relationships with commercial partners.”

-Jonny Baker

During his rookie season in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda Series, Garth has proved himself as a candidate to move up the ladder of the Mazda Road to Indy. With two top 5 finishes and 9 races in the top 10, Garth is looking to finish the season strong with two remaining races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA.
