Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Garth Rickards is a 22-year-old race-car driver who also studies business management at Shippensburg University. Having previously played hockey to a high standard, Garth’s focus is now on forging a career in Motorsports. One of his biggest sources of motivation towards becoming a driver was a simple few words from his mother. Garth’s mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was 16, and passed away four years later, leaving him with inspiration. “She told me to first off, do what makes me happy, and above all, chase your dream no matter what anyone tells you, and never quit”. It was these words that define Garth’s approach to this very day, both in and out of the cockpit.
For 2015, Garth moved up to the Mazda Road to Indy, where he faced his next challenge in the USF2000 National Championship. The challenges will become harder, and the competition will get that much tougher with each step he takes up the Mazda Road to Indy. But with those simple, yet emphatic words still ringing in his ears from his mother, you can rest assured that Garth will be giving it absolutely everything he has to achieve his dream: to become an IndyCar and Indy 500 Champion.
“Garth has been a fantastic ambassador for Team Pelfrey, and I am truly excited that he will continue to represent our brand. Winning races is the name of the game, and having a driver such as Garth sitting in one of our cockpits gives our team and our partners the best possible chance of achieving the results we desire."
